Ayurvedic Yoga (Ayur-yoga)
Yoga enhances our energy, opens our hearts, stretches our bodies, balances emotions and hormones, eases pain, and releases trauma from our connective tissues. Ayur-yoga teaches us how the 5 elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether or space) manifest in our world, internally and externally, as well as how to use the elements to balance each of our bodily constitutions, through asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing), bhandhas (locks) and meditation techniques. Ayur-yoga, the way I teach it, is a mix of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, enveloped in the teachings of Ayurveda, and focused more on allowing breath to create movement and less on structure and form. Ayur-yoga is special because it allows us to take our yoga practice from our mats into our daily lives. We can use Ayur-yoga to assist us in the digestion, assimilation, and absorption of food as well as life experiences so that we create less baggage and more wholeness and vitality within ourselves and our communities.
Private yoga sessions tailored to you and your specific needs are a great introduction to Ayur-yoga and a helpful and fun way to integrate Ayurveda into your life. Yoga classes are also available, please contact me for more information.
